The Elephant Foot flower is typically found in summer (April-May) every year. It is found in local market of Vasai and Virar and is brought their from nearby villages where Suran or Elephant Foot Yam is grown.
Suran Flower is considered an edible vegetable and there are both vegetarian and non-vegetarian traditional recipes that make yum dishes of this little known veggie.
This splendidly colorful flower is edible only if it is not blossomed yet. A blossomed flower stinks and still is a matter of great delight for botanists.
